First of all, I would like to mention about
myself and my background. I am Elif Dedebaş and I have been working as math
teacher at Nedim İnal Middle School in Ankara for one year. I have graduated
from ODTÜ Elementary Math Education in 2013. After my graduation, I went to
Czech Republic as a Comenius Assistant which is a European Program supported by
Turkish Ministry of European Union. I worked as math teacher and representative
of Turkish culture at one Middle school in Czech Republic. This program took
one year and I came back to Turkey to start my profession as math teacher. In a
meantime, I also continue my master degree at ODTÜ Elementary Math Education
Program.
I am deeply interested in educational
technology in math teaching. This interest started during my undergraduate
education since I took several courses about educational technology in those
times. I learned how to use smart board, Office programs for creating
mathematical materials, dynamic math software (skecthpad, cabri etc.), virtual
manipulatives. Moreover, I learned how to integrate these technologies to
lessons effectively. Because even if you know how to use technology, you need
to integrate them into your lesson in a right way,if not they are all
meaningless. To illustrate, I created dynamic virtual materials by using Excel
related to decimals digit and then I use it while teaching decimals to my 5th
class in Czech. I also used Power Point to prepare poster about Polyhedra in
Geometry. I believe that it can be prepared different teaching materials by
using Office Programs. It totally depends on teacher's creativity and desire.
Smart boards have already come to our
classes in Mamak which I work so we will start to use educational technologies
efficiently. Yet, I have experience with smart boards from my classes in Czech
Republic
I strongly believe that I am uniquely suited
to Innovative Educator Expert program because I have an interest in innovations
and technologies in education. Moreover, I am
eager to learn new approaches in educational technology and try them in
my classes. Using MIE expert program improve the quality of my teaching, and
also make my students' understanding permanent thanks to technology.
